Fuchsia denticulata

Native to Peru and Bolivia, this upright or climbing shrub grows in moist Andean canyons, cloud forest and mountain scrub. Leaves usually occur in whorls and have finely toothed margins. Pendant flowers bear long pink to light red tubes, pointed sepals with pale tips and orange to scarlet petals. Pale anthers and a whitish stigma extend beyond the petals. Smooth ellipsoid berries mature from green toward reddish purple. Older stems develop peeling tan bark. Photographed in Colombia.
