Fuchsia andrei

Native to southern Ecuador and northern Peru, this shrub reaches about 13 feet tall in cloud forest and moist scrub. Elliptic to obovate leaves usually grow in opposite pairs. Short clusters bear pendant flowers with narrow orange-red tubes, spreading sepals and orange-red petals. Pale anthers extend from the flowers. The berries are broadly ellipsoid. Older woody branches have tan bark with fine longitudinal markings. Photographed in Peru.
