Fridericia inflorescence with dark pink flowers

Fridericia chica

Native from Mexico through tropical America, these woody flowering vines belong to the trumpet-vine family. Many climb using a simple tendril formed from the terminal leaflet. Their leaves may have one, two, or three leaflets. Branching flower clusters carry tubular or funnel-shaped blossoms with five lobes, usually in shades of pink, magenta, or lilac, with some white-flowered members. Four stamens are held inside the flower tube. Photographed in northern Colombia.
