Freycinetia cumingiana has three orange cylindrical flower spikes surrounded by yellow-orange bracts and narrow green leaves

Freycinetia cumingiana (Climbing Pandanus)

Native to the Philippines, this evergreen climbing plant grows in tropical forests. Narrow, leathery, dark green leaves have parallel veins and pointed tips. Cylindrical spikes of tiny flowers develop at the ends of the branches, surrounded by conspicuous orange to pink-orange bracts. These colored modified leaves provide most of the floral display. Male and female flowers occur on separate plants, and female flower spikes can develop attractive red fruits. The plant is cultivated as a tropical ornamental. Photographed in Florida.
