Fleischmannia pennellii
Native to the Colombian departments of Huila and Putumayo, this upright perennial herb grows about 3 to 5 feet tall. Its mature stems are smooth and dark purple, branching toward the top. Opposite, egg-shaped leaves have long pointed tips, finely toothed edges and five main veins arising near the base. Loose, branching clusters carry small white flowerheads, each containing about 25 tubular florets. The tiny, dry fruits are dark with paler ribs and short hairs. Photographed in Colombia.
