Faramea occidentalis
Native from Mexico through Central America and the Caribbean into South America, this shrub or small tree grows in the forest understory. Its fragrant white flowers have a narrow tube and four spreading lobes. In Panama, flowering is recorded near the beginning of the wet season, and insects and hummingbirds visit the blossoms. The fleshy fruits contain a single large seed, which animals disperse. Its wood is used locally for tool handles and posts in rural houses. Photographed in Colombia.
