Blue-purple Evolvulus argyreus flowers open beside narrow hairy leaves near the ground

Evolvulus argyreus

Native to western South America and northeastern Brazil, this small shrub or subshrub belongs to the morning-glory family. Its flowers have a spreading, wheel-shaped corolla that may be blue, lilac, or white. The sepals are lance-shaped and covered with silky hairs. Unlike many morning glories, Evolvulus plants have non-twining stems. The genus also differs in having two styles, each divided into slender stigmas. Photographed in Colombia.
