Euphorbia robivelonae has two pairs of rounded white bracts edged faintly in pink surrounding small yellow flower centers

Euphorbia robivelonae

Native to northeastern Madagascar, this small, partly woody shrub grows beside streams, including among basalt boulders at the water edge. Its many-branched stems carry narrow leaves that are dark green above and paler beneath. Pale pink to whitish bracts surround the small flower cups. The plant can reach about three feet tall and produces white latex throughout its tissues. Its riverside habitat contrasts with the dry sites occupied by many Madagascan spurges. It is Endangered in the wild. Its milky sap irritates skin and eyes, and the plant is harmful if eaten. Photographed in Florida.
