Euphorbia cotinifolia


Native to Bolivia, northern Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and El Salvador and nearby regions, this is a tree in the Euphorbiaceae family. This small tree has burgundy-red foliage and small white flowers. Awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit, it’s recognized not only for its ornamental charm but also for its role in aiding pollinators, providing nectar and pollen for a range of insects. Its sap, while hazardous has found use in traditional practices; native tribes have utilized it both medicinally and as a poison to aid in catching fish.
