Erythrostemon mexicanus, commonly known as Mexican bird of paradise, is a flowering shrub native to northeastern Mexico and southern Texas, thriving in warm, arid to semi-arid regions. It belongs to the legume family, Fabaceae, and is valued both for ornamental use and ecological benefits. This deciduous plant typically reaches 10–15 feet in height, producing an open, airy canopy with pinnate leaves composed of many small, oval leaflets. Flowering occurs mainly in late spring through summer, when large clusters of bright yellow blossoms appear, each with conspicuous red speckling near the throat. Photographed in Florida.
