Erodium cicutarium (Common Storks Bill)
Native to temperate Eurasia, northern and northeastern Africa, and the islands of Macaronesia, this annual or biennial herb grows in meadows, gravelly ground and disturbed places. Its hairy leaves are finely divided into deeply cut leaflets, often forming a low rosette. Small clusters of pink to purple flowers rise on stalks above the foliage. The five petals may have darker markings near their bases. Long-beaked fruits divide into separate seed-bearing units whose awns twist as they dry. The species is widely naturalized in Australia, where it occurs in every state and the Northern Territory. Photographed in Colombia.
