Epiphyllum phyllanthus (Climbing Cactus)

Native from central Mexico to northeastern Argentina, this plant is a succulent epiphyte that grows on trees. Its hanging branches develop flattened, leaf-like stems with scalloped margins. The slender, trumpet-shaped flowers have white inner petals and a long floral tube. They generally open at night. Narrowly egg-shaped fruits ripen red to lavender-pink and contain numerous dark seeds. It occurs in tropical forests. Photographed in Mompox, Colombia.
