Epidendrum jamiesonis

Native to Colombia and Ecuador, this large terrestrial orchid grows in cool mountain habitats. It belongs to the reed-stem group of Epidendrum orchids, whose leafy canes carry dense terminal flower clusters on elongated stalks. The thick stems carry large, spreading leaves. Magenta flowers have a deeply divided lip with a large, complex central swelling. Flowering can occur throughout the year. Photographed in Colombia.
