Encyclia livida
Native from Mexico through Central America into northern South America, this small orchid grows on trees, rocks, and sometimes cacti in humid, seasonally dry forests. Slightly flattened pseudobulbs carry one or two leaves. Short flowering stems bear a few flowers that often open only partly. The lip has strongly wavy margins, a useful distinguishing feature. Flowers may appear throughout the year, especially in late autumn and winter. Photographed in Colombia.
