Encyclia bractescens

Native to Mexico and northern Central America, this small orchid grows attached to trees. Its clustered pseudobulbs are conical to egg-shaped and slightly wrinkled, each bearing two narrow, glossy leaves at the tip. Simple or lightly branched flower stalks carry two to twelve fragrant flowers above the leaves. The plant occurs in warm to moderately warm climates and remains compact compared with many other members of its genus. Photographed in Florida.
