Yellow sunflower-family flower head beside rough green leaves and a hairy stem

Ecliptinae (species unidentified)

This group in the daisy family includes annual and perennial herbs, shrubs, and some woody climbers, with most of its diversity in the Americas. Members commonly have opposite leaves with three main veins. Their flower heads contain many tiny flowers, often combining yellow outer rays with central disc florets. The small, dry fruits may have wings or persistent bristles. Members grow in open and disturbed habitats, as well as along woodland margins. Photographed in Colombia.
