Dense white spines cover a clump of upright Echinocereus nivosus stems in gravel

Echinocereus nivosus

Native to northeastern Mexico, this small cactus develops clusters of upright stems covered with dense white spines. The spiny covering partly conceals the green stems and gives the clump a snowy appearance. Mature plants produce large light-purple flowers, although flowering can be infrequent. It is critically endangered in the wild. Photographed in Florida.
