Red Echinacea hybrid rays spread around a dark raised central cone

Echinacea hybrid (cultivar unidentified)

Cultivated perennial herbs derived from North American coneflowers, these Echinacea plants form clumps of rough-textured leaves and upright flowering stems. Their daisy-like heads have conspicuous outer rays and a raised central cone made up of many tiny florets. Garden hybrids occur in a wide range of colours, including white, pink, red, orange, and yellow. The sturdy stems carry the flowerheads above the foliage through summer. Photographed in Florida.
