Echeveria bicolor bears yellow flowers flushed orange and red on an upright stem

Echeveria bicolor

Native to Colombia and Venezuela, it is a succulent subshrub with fleshy green leaves arranged in rosettes at the stem tips. The leaves broaden toward their tips and often have a shallow lengthwise groove on the upper surface. Upright flowering stems bear short-stalked flowers accompanied by green bracts. The flowers are mostly yellow, with varying amounts of red on the outside, and their pointed tips spread as they open. The species occurs in the Colombian Andes and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, including rocky habitats. Its flowers are also used for ornamental purposes. Photographed at the Páramo de Berlín, Colombia.
