Chrysalidocarpus lutescens
Native to eastern Madagascar, this plant is a clumping palm with slender, cane-like stems. The smooth stems have distinct rings left by fallen leaves and yellow-green crownshafts. Long, arching fronds carry many pairs of narrow leaflets. Branched yellow flower clusters develop below the crownshafts, followed by small, oblong fruits that ripen from yellow to purple. The palm is widely grown in tropical landscapes and indoors, and its fronds are used in flower arrangements. Although familiar in cultivation, it is classified as Near Threatened in the wild. Photographed in Armenia, Colombia.
