Dracaena aubryana upright flower spike bears narrow pink-striped flowers and white stamens

Dracaena aubryana

Native to west-central tropical Africa and Angola, this plant is an upright shrub of moist forests. Its usually unbranched stem may twist spirally. Broad, oval to elongated leaves grow in two rows and are carried on distinct stalks. Upright flower spikes, sometimes branched near the base, bear small groups of white or greenish-white flowers. Each narrow flower lobe often has a reddish-purple stripe. The fragrant blooms are followed by glossy orange fruits with one to three pronounced lobes. The plant is cultivated for its foliage and has naturalized in forests on Oahu, Hawaii. Photographed in Cali, Colombia.
