Dolichandra uncata
Native from southern Mexico through Central America and the Caribbean to northern Argentina, it is a woody climbing vine of swamps and riverside forests. Its leaves have two leaflets, often accompanied by a three-branched, hooked tendril. The leaflets usually taper to a long point. Yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers are enclosed at the base by a green calyx that splits along one side and often ends in a small inward-curving point. Narrow, flattened seed capsules contain dark seeds with thick, corky wings. Photographed in the department of Atlántico, Colombia.
