Dipsacus fullonum

Native to Albania, Algeria, Austria, Baleares, Belgium, and Bulgaria and nearby regions, this is an herbaceous plant in the Caprifoliaceae family. Has a historical and widespread presence predominantly in Europe and Northern Africa. Originally, it was cultivated for its flower heads used in the wool industry for raising the nap on fabrics. Today, it is more commonly seen in the wild, growing along roadsides, in fields, and in open areas. It is considered invasive in some parts of the United States. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
