Native to Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras and nearby regions, this is a tree in the Fabaceae family. This species is a small tree to Central America and northern South America. It typically grows in seasonally dry forests, open woodlands, and on hillsides at elevations ranging from lowlands to about 4,900 feet. The species produces striking clusters of yellow, pea-shaped flowers arranged in pendulous racemes. Photographed in Panama.
