Dioclea macrantha
Native to tropical South America, this perennial woody vine climbs through vegetation in humid forests. Its leaves have three broad, oval leaflets. Lavender to purple, pea-shaped flowers grow in clusters beside the leaves, with the broad upper petal bending backward. Flattened seed pods split open at maturity. It grows in the Amazon basin and the Guianas. Photographed in NariƱo, Colombia.
