Dichorisandra villosula is native to the Amazon. This perennial herbaceous species grows in shaded understories and is recognized by its dense inflorescences composed of violet to blue tubular flowers with contrasting white throats. The tightly packed clusters can resemble small cones or spikes, unlike its better-known relative Dichorisandra thyrsiflora, which produces taller upright spikes, D. villosula forms shorter, more compact inflorescences. Its stems are often covered with fine hairs, a feature referenced in its species name “villosula,” meaning “slightly hairy. Photographed in Ecuador.
