Dianthus chinensis, commonly known as the China pink, originates from northern China, Korea, Mongolia, and southeastern Russia. This species is cultivated widely as an ornamental flower for its distinctive, brightly colored petals that are serrated and often display striking bicolor patterns of red, pink, and white. The flowers are usually about 1 to 1.5 inches across and are borne singly or in loose clusters, creating a vibrant display during the blooming season. The China pink has been cultivated in Europe since the 18th century and has since produced many cultivars and hybrids valued in horticulture for their range of colors and patterns. Photographed in Florida.
