Close-up of Dianthera secunda with elongated tubular red flowers emerging from green stems and buds
Dianthera secunda

Dianthera secunda, native to tropical regions of Central and South America, is a shrub-like plant. It produces clusters of vibrant red, tubular flowers that are arranged in a distinctive one-sided pattern along the stems, a characteristic reflected in the species epithet secunda, which refers to flowers borne on one side of the inflorescence. Photographed in Colombia.
