Dendrobium tobaense var. giganteum is native to northern Sumatra, Indonesia. It is an epiphytic orchid that grows attached to trees in humid, shaded environments, relying on the moist cloud forest conditions to sustain its growth. The flowers of this orchid are striking, with elongated, sharply pointed green petals and sepals that spread widely, contrasted by a bold, deep red lip that extends outward in a triangular, tapering form. This distinct floral structure gives the species an unusual and dramatic appearance, setting it apart from other Dendrobium orchids. Photographed in Florida.
