Davilla kunthii

Davilla kunthii is a shrub native to tropical regions of the Americas. The plant produces small, yellow flowers, which later develop into rounded fruits that transition from green to shades of yellow, orange, and red as they mature. These fruits are covered by persistent, papery sepals that enclose and protect the seeds. The leaves are leathery, ovate, and display prominent venation, which is characteristic of the genus. Traditionally, Davilla kunthii has been noted in folk medicine, where its leaves have been used in some regions for wound healing and other therapeutic applications. Photographed in Panama.
