Dalechampia tiliifolia is a climbing vine native to tropical regions of Central and South America. It is notable for its unusual inflorescence in which the true flowers are small and inconspicuous but are surrounded by two large white to cream-colored bracts that mimic petals, making the structure appear like a single, showy flower. This adaptation is thought to enhance visibility to pollinators such as bees. The plant is dioecious, producing separate male and female flowers within its inflorescences, and is known for its production of resins that attract specialized bee species. Photographed in Panama.
