Cyrtosperma macrotum
Native to New Guinea, it is a perennial herb that grows from a thick rhizome in swamp forests, rainforests and lower mountain forests. Its arrow-shaped leaves have two long rear lobes that exceed the forward-pointing lobe. Prickles cover the leaf stalks and may also occur on the undersides and margins of the blades. A narrow, pointed spathe surrounds a pale yellow to green spadix bearing many small flowers. Spathe colors vary from whitish or yellow-green to brown or purple. Each flower contains both male and female organs. As the orange, oval fruits develop, the spadix turns toward a horizontal position. Photographed in Florida.
