Cuphea dipetala is native to Colombia. This perennial shrub is distinguished by its two large, wrinkled petals of deep purple, a yellow throat at the base of the corolla, and elongated stamens protruding below. The flower tube and stem are often covered with fine reddish hairs, giving it a distinctive appearance among Cuphea species. Photographed in Colombia.
