Cumulopuntia corotilla
Cumulopuntia corotilla is a cactus species native to high-altitude regions of the Andes in Peru, Bolivia, and northern Chile. It is well adapted to the harsh conditions of puna and altiplano habitats, where temperature fluctuations are extreme and soils are rocky and nutrient-poor. This cactus forms low clumps with rounded, spiny pads that can create dense mats over time. The flowers of Cumulopuntia corotilla are its most distinctive feature, presenting in shades of yellow to orange with a reddish tint near the edges of the petals. Photographed in Ecuador.
