Cubarral, Colombia Countryside

Cubarral is a small municipality located in the Meta Department of central Colombia, nestled in the foothills of the Eastern Andes. It lies roughly 3 hours southeast of Bogotá by road, via Villavicencio and Acacías, and is part of the Orinoquía region, where the mountains transition into the vast lowland plains known as Los Llanos Orientales. The elevation in Cubarral ranges between 1,600 and 3,600 feet, giving the area a tropical but slightly cooler climate compared to the lowland Llanos. Cubarral is known for its agricultural economy the surrounding countryside features a mosaic of hills, rivers, waterfalls, and forested areas. A major natural attraction near Cubarral is Caño Lajón, a crystal-clear river with natural pools, rock formations, and gentle rapids that make it a popular site for hiking, swimming, and picnicking.
