Croton punctatus
Native along coasts from the southeastern United States to Colombia and across parts of the Caribbean to northern Venezuela, this low shrub grows on beaches and sand dunes. Its foliage has a silvery appearance. It tolerates drought and sandy soils, reproducing by seed. The plant helps hold dunes in place and reduce erosion, while providing shelter for small animals and invertebrates. Photographed in Florida.
