Croton magdalenensis
Native to Colombia and Ecuador, this tree grows in Andean forests, secondary woodland, and open areas. It can reach about 72 feet tall, with reddish sap and dense golden hairs on young growth. In Colombia, it occurs at about 3,500 to 9,500 feet. Its seeds provide food for parrots and parakeets. It is planted for shade, living fences, and protection of streams; the wood is used for boxes, furniture, and charcoal. Photographed in the eastern Andes mountain range of Colombia.
