Croton funckianus
Native from Venezuela to Ecuador, this fast-growing Andean tree can reach about 98 feet tall. Its smooth gray bark releases reddish sap when damaged, and its spreading crown often carries some red leaves among the green foliage. In Colombia, it grows from about 1,000 to 8,900 feet. Birds eat its fruits, and it is planted for forest restoration, ornament, and protection of water resources. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
