Cotoneaster pannosus

Native to southwestern China, this evergreen to semi-deciduous shrub grows about 6 to 16 feet tall, with upright or arching branches. Its small oval leaves are dull green above and densely covered with white hairs beneath. Clusters of white flowers are followed by red fruits containing two seeds. Birds eat the fruits and spread the seeds. Widely planted as an ornamental, it has become naturalized in Australia and is an environmental weed in southeastern Australia, where dense thickets displace native vegetation.
