Costus villosissimus is native to tropical Central America and northern South America. This perennial herbaceous species belongs to the Costaceae family and is noted for its distinctive spiraled foliage and vibrant yellow flowers. Its stems are covered with fine hairs, reflecting the epithet villosissimus, meaning “very hairy.” The plant typically grows in moist, shaded habitats, including forest understories and edges where humidity remains high. The inflorescence consists of overlapping green bracts from which the large, showy flowers emerge. Each bloom is characterized by a broad, crinkled yellow labellum with a delicate texture.
