Costus acreanus
Costus acreanus is a species native to the Amazon basin, particularly Brazil. This perennial herb belongs to the spiral gingers, known for their distinctive spiral leaf arrangement and striking floral bracts. The flowers emerge from cone-shaped bracts that are usually dark and textured, providing a contrasting backdrop to the delicate, funnel-shaped blooms. The blossoms are pale pink with yellow accents at the throat and a crinkled petal texture. Like many in the Costus genus, the species thrives in humid, tropical environments and can be found in understory habitats where it benefits from filtered light. Photographed in Ecuador.
