Cosmos caudatus
Cosmos caudatus, is native to Latin America but is now widely naturalized in Southeast Asia. This annual herb can grow up to six feet tall, producing delicate foliage and colorful daisy-like flowers in shades ranging from magenta to pink and occasionally white. The flowers have a characteristic yellow center composed of numerous small florets surrounded by ray florets that may vary in number and form. The species is notable in Southeast Asia for its edible young leaves, which are consumed fresh in salads and valued for their distinct aroma. Cosmos caudatus is fast-growing and readily self-seeds.
