Comparettia falcata

Native to Belize, Bolivia, southeastern Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Cuba and nearby regions, this is an orchid in the Orchidaceae family. It grows in cloud forest at altitudes between 4,000 and 7,000 feet, where dense cloud cover provides a cool, humid environment. In its natural habitat, it tends to grow as an epiphyte, anchoring itself onto trees, rather than in the soil. The flowers are bright pink. Photographed in the central Andes of Colombia.
