Columnea anisophylla
Native from Costa Rica to Peru, it is an epiphytic subshrub of wet tropical forests, including cloud forests. Its elongated, climbing shoots use other plants for support. The hairy stems bear opposite leaves with narrow, pointed blades and hairs pressed against their upper surfaces. Red tubular flowers grow from the leaf axils, their spreading lobes opening around the projecting style. The mature fruit is a bright yellow, fleshy berry that remains closed when ripe, an unusual color in a genus whose berries are often white. Photographed in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia.
