Clusia minor
Native from central Mexico through tropical America, this evergreen shrub or tree grows in humid forests and can begin life on another tree. Its thick, leathery leaves grow in opposite pairs and have smooth edges. Fragrant white to pink flowers produce sticky resin that bees collect for their nests, helping pollinate the flowers. Rounded capsules split open when mature to expose the seeds. Photographed in Fortuna Forest Reserve, Panama.
