Clerodendrum minahassae white flowers with long pale tubes, curved reddish stamens, and elongated calyces

Clerodendrum minahassae

This plant is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to the Philippines, Sulawesi, and Maluku. Opposite, glossy leaves are elongated and elliptical, with a wrinkled surface that bulges between the veins. Young leaf margins are wavy, becoming smoother at maturity. Small flower clusters develop near the branch tips. The white flowers have long, narrow tubes and five slender lobes that curve or droop backward. Four curled stamens and a long pinkish-red style project beyond the corolla. The fruits become shiny black when ripe and are surrounded by a persistent red calyx. The plant produces suckers, particularly after heavy pruning. Photographed in Florida.
