Clerodendrum fragrans, commonly called the fragrant glory bower, originates from China and Southeast Asia where it grows as a shrub or small perennial plant. It typically reaches a height of about 6 to 8 feet and produces clusters of showy, double-petaled flowers that open white with a hint of pale pink in the buds. The blossoms are highly fragrant, releasing a strong, sweet aroma that intensifies during the evening. In addition to its ornamental use, Clerodendrum fragrans has traditional applications in Asian herbal medicine, where parts of the plant have been used for treating conditions such as inflammation and fever. It is also cultivated as a decorative plant in tropical and subtropical regions outside its native range. Photographed in Florida.
