Citrus × sinensis Sumo fruit showing its knobby orange rind and juicy segmented interior

Citrus × sinensis 'Sumo'

Developed in Japan, the Sumo citrus is a seedless mandarin hybrid distinguished by its large fruit, loose pebbled rind, and prominent neck. It descends from Kiyomi tangor and ponkan mandarin breeding lines. The easily peeled segments have sweet, juicy flesh with low acidity, and commercial fruit is marketed under several regional brand names. Photographed in Florida.
