Chrysothemis pulchella (Sunset Bells)

Native to northern Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, and El Salvador and nearby regions, this is an herbaceous plant in the Gesneriaceae family. Known for its vibrant floral display, Sunset Bells has a habit of flourishing in the moist slopes of tropical forests, usually found about 330 feet above sea level. In cultivation, there are several forms known as ‘Copper Leaf’, ‘Bronze Leaf’, or ‘Black Flamingo’, exhibiting darker leaves. Photographed in Barranquilla, Colombia.
