A close view of a Chamaecrista fasciculata flower with four broad yellow petals, long protruding stamens, and green pinnate leaves
Chamaecrista fasciculata

Chamaecrista fasciculata, commonly known as partridge pea, is native to North America. This species is an annual legume that plays an ecological role in maintaining soil fertility due to its nitrogen-fixing properties. The flowers are notable for their bright yellow petals with a small reddish spot near the center, a characteristic feature that distinguishes them from other native legumes. Each bloom measures about one inch across and develops in the leaf axils during midsummer to early fall. Photographed in Florida.
